Google, the American tech giant, has announced Generation Google Scholarship for women studying computer science. Under this scholarship program, Google will grant ₹75,000 ($1,000) to the selected candidates for the academic year 2022-2023.
The Generation Google Scholarship will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, innovation, and academic performance.
Considering the importance of women empowerment, Google is keen on supporting the budding talent (especially in the field of computer science, computer engineering, and technology) by granting scholarships. Generation Google Scholarship: Who can apply?
The interested candidates must fulfill the following criteria to get shortlisted:
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelors' degree for the 2021-2022 academic year.
- Currently pursuing 2nd year of study at an accredited university in Asia Pacific country when completing the scholarship program.
- Pursuing computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field
- Demonstrate a robust academic record
- Exemplify leadership and demonstrate a passion for improving the representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology
Google Scholarship Program: Application Process
The entire application process for Generation Google Scholarship is straightforward and will be conducted, via online mode. The process is as follows:
1. Online Application Form
The interested candidates should fill an online application form. The form includes:
- General information such as contact information and details about your current and planned universities.
- Resume or CV, highlighting technical projects you have completed and participation in community engagement.
- Academic transcripts from your present institutions/Universities (and prior, if applicable).
- Responses to two short answer essay questions (Explained below).
- Fifteen minutes of “meet and greet” per shortlisted participant.
- Google Online Challenge (Invitation to the challenge will be sent, within 5-7 working days post-application deadline).

2. Essay Writing
Essay writing will consist of the following two questions.
- What is a significant challenge that you believe women in the tech industry face and how do you see yourself being part of the solution(s) to this challenge? Keep in mind that impact can happen in many ways and at different scales.
- What impact would receiving this scholarship have on your education? Describe any circumstances affecting your need for a scholarship and what educational goals this scholarship will enable you to accomplish.
The essay must be written in English and should be up to 400 words. As you can observe, the essay writing will assess your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and financial need.
Generation Google Scholarship: Required Documents
The candidates should keep the following documents handy:
- A PDF copy of your resume or CV.
- A PDF copy of your current or most recent transcript (unofficial documents are acceptable).
- A PDF copy of your two short essay answer responses.
